Common Injuries in Football

Football is the most popular sport with over 240 million players registered in the world not to mention all the recreational players.

Having more knowledge and understanding the type and cause of injuries that are most sustained in football is essential to help you prevent them.

To find out the most common injuries sustained in football I went on the Football Advisers site to look at injuries in the Barclays Premier League 08/09. A total of 71 footballers were injured and listed underneath you will find the most common injury sites.

1) Hip and Thigh 9%

2) Ankle 16%

3) Hamstring 11%

4) Groin 9%

5) Knee 28%

6) Calf strain 6%

7) Achilles 4%

8) Other 16% included illness, back, dislocated shoulder, metatarsal fracture, os trigonum syndrome.

As you can see knee injuries have a higher incidence rate, these can include acute trauma to the anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament, cartilage, and posterior cruciate ligament. Possible over use can cause pain of the patella tendon.

Ankle and hamstring injuries follow with groin and hip/thigh injuries. These 5 top the chart for most common injuries in football.

So how do we combat this; coming soon
