Sports Therapy Joints Sprains and Muscles Strains |
Pain and injury is experienced by the vast majority of the population. This may have become acceptable to many but here at Pro-Am we believe that pain and injury should not be any ones constant or natural state. Everything we do in our lives sleep, sit, stand, has an impact, all these activities have an influence on how we feel. Sports Therapy examines these factors as potential contributors to your condition. Beyond simply treating your condition Pro-Am works to address the causes of any niggles. The job is not finished until we have you back participating in your job or sport. Our Specialist aims to provide the highest levels of Sports Therapy care in North Yorkshire.
All clients receive a full examination and assessment designed to identify the
cause of the pain or dysfunction.
Injury First assessment: Includes an initial consultation, physical assessment of the injury (allowing baseline measure to be taken to show improvements or if progress is not happening), treatment plan and tailored rehabilitation program. This is achieved by detailed questioning, skilled observation and performing diagnostic tests considering your muscles, joints, nerves and associated structures. This will lead to a diagnosis and explanation of your problem. Injury Follow up session: These sessions will be for further treatments and rehabilitation progression. Ultrasound and TENS - Machines can be a useful, to enhance the rate of healing by increasing circulation, giving pain relief. Electrotherapy will be used only when appropriate. Mobilisations - These are skills normally applied to joints, muscles or nerves, aimed at increasing range of motion, relieving pain and correcting alignment to improve movement patterns. It can normalise the soft tissues and reduce muscle spasm. Soft Tissue Techniques - Massage techniques are used to treat problems related to soft tissue injury and dysfunction. Massage is a key component to the management of the client. Sports massage can be more invasive and technical in application than Swedish massage. The massage works at a much deeper level to cause a positive reaction in the muscles, fascia and connective tissue to bring about physiological changes. It increases blood flow and drainage of waste products which can reduce muscle soreness after exercise. It increases tissue temperature and decreases swelling caused by injury and breaks down adhesions within the soft tissues leading to increased muscle flexibility. It addresses muscle imbalances via application of Soft tissue release (STR) and muscle energy techniques (MET). Frictions is the deepest of techniques used in sports massage and is targeted at soft tissue damage such as scar tissue or adhesions. Frictions are used for pain relief and to increase the inflammatory response, particularly effective in cases of tennis or golfers elbow, chronic tendonitis or ankle sprains. Soft tissue release is a combination of applying muscle pressure/lock and allowing movement of the limb to cause change. Muscle energy techniques compliment STLs greatly, it is a stretching technique which involves the subjects own muscular energy to help release holding tension. They can also be applied together.
Myofascial release - This
hands-on technique seeks to free the body from the grip of tight fascia, or
connective tissue, thus restoring normal alignment and function and reducing
pain. Using their hands, therapists apply mild, sustained pressure to gently
stretch and soften the fascia. Myofascial release is used to treat neck and back
pain, headaches, and recurring/chronic sports injuries, among other conditions.
It has shown great results for fibromalgia. Exercise and Stretches - Our knowledge in movement, anatomy and physiology of the human body will enable exercise prescription to correct movement faults, relieving musculoskeletal symptoms, preventing further injury and possibly enhancing performance. The focus on stretching and strengthening programs looks at the interrelationship of the whole body - treating the cause behind the injury and not just the injury site. Exercises can assist with self management of a complaint and can reduce the number of treatments required In the latter stages of rehabilitation it is necessary for exercise to be functional and specific to the intended activities to be performed. We will prescribe a suitable program for your individual requirements.
