New Year, New Beginnings

Happy New Year!

January is looking very busy for Pro-Am, we have our next lot of Hull York Medical Students for our Sports Massage Module. We will be needing practice models in the first week of February, I will post nearer the time to take bookings.

Jenna will also be starting a new teaching post with Scarborough Sixth Form Students. Its an opportunity for any student interested in going into Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy, Sports Science etc. to get a taster of sports massage.

You can keep up to date with Pro-Am’s activities via facebook, twitter, and google plus. Our next monthly newsletter will be posted on 25th January, it will give advice on how to start exercise. This time of year many people like to get fit but many will get injuries trying to do too much too soon. You can sign up to our newsletter by filling out the form in the left hand side of the footer.

Shoulder Rehabilitation

Last night Jenna went on an evening course about “shoulder rehabilitation: a message from distant parts” the speaker was Ian Horsley lead physio at the English Institute of Sport. This is perfect timing for our monthly newsletter which will be posted next week. I will share with you:

Why is stability better than strength?

Does the cause of a shoulder injury actually come from the shoulder itself?

Which two exercises should you be carfeul with in relation to the shoulder?

Plus a few great exercises to improve shoulder stability.

It was a great local course organised by Physio Louise Child, hopefully it will be the start of many in the Scarborough area.

McCains Yorkshire Coast 10k 2013

What a glorious day we had for the McCains Yorkshie Coast 10k race on Sunday 3rd November. My facebook page shows just how close the finish was.

I always volunteer my services for my local athletics club “Scarborough AC” This was our fourth year running the Yorkshire Coast 10k and the first time we had maximum capacity entered. The site of runners stretched right across the South Bay to the Harbour was amazing to witness. The picture above shows the start of the race, sadly I never got to see the fantastic finish as I had to be ready to recieve runners for post race massages.

One of my HYMS students Josh came down to help out, I feel I threw him a bit in the deep end. Due to the amount of runners, instead of working with Josh and introducing him to event massaging , I had to put him on his own table to work to reduce the waiting line. He did amazing and i’m sure will benefit greatly from the experience.

Well done to everyone who took part and also a big thank you to all the volunteers.

Scalby Fair Saturday 22nd June

Just been getting some stock together for the Scalby Fair this weekend. I will be in Manchester competing at the Northern Championships but the lovely Lisa MacGregor has a table at the fair and will be selling some of my luscious bath and shower products, along with some cards made by JDS and jewellery made by Lisa. So if you fancy a day out, pop out to the Scalby Fair ImagePlease share this post with your friends to support a great local event.
